Are you looking for some ways to get people to actually visit your business website but not knowing how to go about it? Then I have something for you! I’m going to show you different ways to drive targeted traffic to your website.
Website traffic generation seems to be some hard nuts to crack for most digital marketers, most especially the newbie marketers. This is because there is more competition in the industry.
Unlike several years ago, where you will only have to publish a blog post and get tons of traffic naturally even without struggling for it. The competition was way lesser than it is now.
Everyone knows the importance of having consistent traffic to a website, that’s probabl, the reason why you have come to this page.
You must have heard before, the amount of traffic you get determines the amount of money you will make. well, Let me disappoint you a bit!
Getting a huge amount of traffic doesn’t necessarily mean you are going to make a lot of money. The problem facing most of the marketers is NOT being able to convert their traffic to buyers! That’s simply because they are building the wrong audience.
Sometimes you try hard to send people to your website, and watch them go away after a while, hoping you can get them back! Not knowing they are gone for good. And the worse of it? You may have spent money getting them in the first place.
“Website traffics” and “TARGETED website traffic” are far two different things!
So today, I am going to show you exactly how to drive targeted traffic to your website without spending much time and money. I will also show you how to convert those traffic to loyal customers. Just read till the end!
How to drive targeted traffic to your website.
Before we go further into the topic we have let us quickly separate the goats from the sheep. You need to understand the difference between traffic and targeted traffic.
Targeted website traffic explained!
Driving traffic to your website is the idea of trying to get people to come and have a look at your website, whereas, getting targeted traffic is sending the “RIGHT” people to your website. People who are more likely to stick around for a while still come back and take some actions.
You can now see the difference right?
Have you noticed that 75% of your website visitors who leave your website do not come back, Have you ever asked yourself why?
Most of these people who leave your website intentionally do not want to come back! Simply because your website wasn’t able to solve their problem, so it’s either they are not the right audience, or you are not doing your thing right!
To channel the right people to your website, here are the things you should do:
1. Blog constantly, but target the right keywords.
Content is still King! Even though Neil said it’s not. A site with contents that updates regularly will get both Search Engine and human Love easily.
When you take a look at the first page of a search result, you will notice that 90 – 95 percent of the pages are actually blog posts.
One of the best ways to maintain customer relationships is to frequently update them with new tips and tactics related to what they are looking for.
Apart from maintaining your customers, blogging also helps to drive the right traffic to your website (business). I’ve noticed that recently. in fact, I have been able to increase the traffic to my Digital Marketing Agency website by up to 120% through the contents on my blog.
When a customer is referred to your business website through your BLOG post, they are simply interesting in your services and the chances that they will do business with you become high!
Now, it’s not just about blogging. The most important thing is the KEYWORDS you use on your blogs.
Keywords are what people search for. So, do not try to rank for any keyword that is not related to your business. If you do, you may flood your business with irrelevant traffic and end up making NO money.
What are the other benefits of blogging?
Apart from driving targeted traffic to your website, blogging also helps to:
- Keep people on your website longer
- Link to different parts of your website
- Get more backlinks
- Hear the thoughts of your customers.
2. Learn SEO
When you want to find a product or service without having anyone in mind, What do you do?
Conduct a search, right?
Of course, that’s what you would do.
Now, what happens when we conduct a search? Google helps us find the assumed best results and bring them to our computer screen. Not just because they are BEST, but because SEO was carefully implemented.
Now, if you want your website to be among the first page of Google search results for your targeted keywords, you should learn SEO.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the extra work you carried out on your website or blog posts to make it loved by both human and search engines. Ideally, it is the practice of trying to rank high on SERP (search engine result page).
Creating content for my website may take me more than 6hrs, but it’s nothing to compare to the 15 – 20 minutes I spend optimizing those contents. SEO is very important!
3. Utilize the power of social media.
Your targeted audience is everywhere, But social media is where they gather most. Are you aware of that?
Take a look at the environment, who doesn’t have a social media account? If you inspect further, you will find out that some of us are active on three to four social media platforms.
Do you know about 1.59 billion active users visit Facebook every day? What about Instagram? More than 600 million active users daily.
If you’ve ever wondered why most businesses spend millions on social media ads, then you should consider the stats above.
Now, you don’t necessarily have to empty your purse before you get traffic from social media. There are other ways to make that happen.
I’ve uploaded an e-book which is titled “social traffic rush“. It is a ten-part course that will teach you how to drive targeted traffic to your website using all the top social media sites. Download a copy below.
4. Use Videos to promote your website
Hey! Videos are very powerful!
According to Alexa, YouTube is the second most visited website on the planet. What does that tell you? People spend time searching for videos!
Do you have any idea of how many people watching videos on snapchat per day? Can you guess…?
It’s 10 billion video watch a day! That’s so huge, right?
Do you also know that 73% of the people buy a product after watching a video? According to wyzowl
Many studies have found video marketing to be highly effective. If you’re not producing and uploading videos on YouTube for your business, you’re missing out on a ton of potential traffic!
Why you need to start using videos
1. Videos make you more real and authentic to your audience – people look out for authenticity. For that reason, using videos on important pages of your website will make you sound real and gain people’s trust.
People look at the “About Page” to know who’s behind a website. What do you think about embedding a video where you talk directly to them about your business?
2. Videos make it easy for you to demonstrate and show how your product or service works – demonstrating how to use your product or service will get people’s attention easily.
Do you notice that people like watching videos instead of reading an article of 5,000 words with screenshots? It’s more easy to click on a video on YouTube and watch comfortably.
3. Videos makes people stay longer on your website – when you use Videos on your website, it reduces the bounce rate by keeping your visitors busy.
The internet is so wide that 0 – 3 percent of your targeted audience will only notice the existence of your website.
When you launch your website, no one comes to it until you tell them about it.
But how do you tell them? SEO takes a lot of time to kick in 🤔
We have to welcome paid ads. Adverts are a paid source of traffic, which gets instant results.
Thankfully, using paid ads, we can set the audience we want to target.
6. Create Quality Contents.
Nobody wants to visit a website with low-quality content. So if you do not have quality content on your blog/website, you are losing a lot of customers to the hands of your competitors.
- Informative blog posts and pages
- Product Description
- Media’s – including images, videos, audios, etc.
Why you need quality content is to sound professional in your niche.
People will be having doubts to do business with you in the first place, but the quality of content in your website can clear their doubts in a short time.
How to create Quality content
For you to come up with the best content idea, you will have to spy on your competitors. Know the kind of contents they create, copy their ideas and improve it.
If your main competitor writes content on 5 ways to kill a goat, you can steal it, improve it to 25 ways to kill a goat.
Yes, adding more 20 points to what your competitor already has will make your content superior, but make sure your points don’t go off the topic.
When your contents are of the best quality, you are going to get more referral traffic.
7. Use documents sharing sites.
For some reason, SEO guys believe that submitting articles to document sharing sites has little to no SEO benefits. I don’t argue with that! The launch of panda changed a lot of things. But we are talking about traffic, NOT SEO.
One of the best ways to drive targeted traffic to your website totally free of charge is by writing articles linking back to your site and submitting them to articles submitting sites such as scribd.
Even though Google may ignore links found on such sites, it can still help you generate thousands of referral traffic if your article is well presented.
There are many of such site (document Sharing Site) which I am going to mention only a few here,
1. Slideshare: LinkedIn SlideShare is a platform for publishing professional content. Users can upload contents such as presentations, infographics, documents, and videos which can be uploaded privately or publicly in PowerPoint, Word, PDF, or OpenDocument format.
2. Scribd: It’s a perfect platform for publishers. Most bloggers and marketers come here to publish, discuss and discover original writings.
3. Issuu: Looking at Issuu, it may look like a digital magazine. But it is one of the best platforms for publishing your own articles, documents and gain some exposure to your brand.
4. Wattpad: It is an online community for readers and publishers to submit new user-generated stories in different categories.
8. Guests post on other blogs
Guest posting helps a lot in driving targeted traffic to your website but that is only if you understand the basics.
So, what the heck is guest posting?
You probably know what it is, but for the sake of new timers, Guest posting means writing articles or blog posts for other websites, usually for an exchange of a backlink.
There are many benefits of guest posting, but let’s focus on the traffic generating aspect.
When you write a guest post, if the website you are writing for permits, you can link up to pages on your website. That does not only give you a backlink but referral traffic.
If your guest post performs well, your links may be clicked by many, and that will brings them to your website.
9. Implement schema microdata
Schema Microdata isn’t a ranking factor, but it helps search engines a lot to improve the way they read and represent your page in SERPs.
Schema.org is a collaborative community activity with a mission to create, maintain and promote schemas for structured data on web pages.
How implementing schema microdata can help drive targeted traffic to your website?
Okay, that’s a nice question. For some reasons, searchers do not click on your link when they appear on search results, do you know why?
Your Title and meta description was not enough to get their attention. Take a look at the search result below..
The first results have a rich snippet as a result of properly implemented schema microdata while the second doesn’t.
Now, if you were to be the searcher, which of the two results will you click?
The majority of us will click the first result, and that’s because the result is rich.
10. Build an email list
Building a list of email subscribers for your website is the wisest thing to do right now.
As you already know, the majority of your website visitors do not return when they leave. Which is why you should try everything possible to capture their email.
Why list building is a necessity, not a choice…
According to the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), email marketing gets a 4300% average return on investment (ROI) for businesses in the US and UK in 2018.
What does that tell you?
Email marketing rocks!
When building an email list, only the people who are interested in your business are more likely to opt-in. With that being said, you are more likely to make even more sales.
Now, building a list will not get you new website traffic, but it will maintain your existing customers.
11. Speed up your website
Websites that take more than 3secs to load will find it difficult to get more traffic. This is because people are not patient enough to wait for more than that.
While trying to get targeted traffic to your website, you should as well make sure your website loads faster for more chances of success.
I hope you remember, website load time is one of the ranking factors according to Brian Dean.
12. Comment, comment and keep commenting
Another great way of driving targeted traffic to your website is by writing a meaningful and problem-solving comment on blog posts related to your website.
It’s not just about commenting but writing something meaningful.
When you leave a comment that touches someone’s pain, they will want to follow your link to know more about you.
So, it is logical. If your comments are not meaningful, this is not going to work for you.
13. Host webinars
A webinar is a key way to increase the amount of targeted traffic to your website. Many successful marketers are using it to increase their website traffic over time.
People want you to teach them how to do something, they also want to watch you carry out some practicals.
So, hosting a webinar is one of the ways you can show your audience how to solve their problems with examples, and sending them back to your website for other resources.
Webinars can be promoted through various channels thereby providing you with a variety of traffic sources.
14. Join Q&A websites
Have you visited quara.com? You will be surprised at the kind of question people ask there.
Quora is a Q&A website where people of different categories come to ask any question freely and expect to get an answer from other people who know more than them.
According to a report quora has grown from 200million active users in 2017 to 300 million active monthly users in 2018. That tells me that a lot of people are facing a lot of challenges in their everyday life.
When you visit a Q&A website, you will notice that people ask a lot of questions. If you are able to answer those questions and give a link to your website where you have discussed such a problem, you will surely get a lot of traffic.
Other Q&A websites you should take a look at…
15. Research your competitors and steal what works for them
Competitor’s analysis is very important in traffic generation. You may want to know where their traffic is coming from.
It is a smart thing for websites that are still struggling with traffic to analyze other bigger websites on the same niche and copy their strategies.
Semrush is a great tool you can use to spy on your competitors. Just type in your competitors URL and it will show you how things go around with them.
16. Choose a niche and narrow it down
Choosing a niche for your business/website is a little bit challenging. It requires some extra homework.
Narrowing down your niche will help filter your traffic. Take, for example, your website is all about “Sports” but instead of focusing on that niche, you decide to narrow down to football, then to “premier league”.
If all your articles are focused on the premier league, then the traffic your traffic will only come from the people who are interested in the premier league.
17. Get listed on “Google My Business”
Listing your business on Google Maps will not cost you a dime, it is absolutely free.
Google My Business is a free tool that lets you manage how your business appears on Google Search and Maps.
That includes adding your business name, location, and hours; monitoring and replying to customer reviews; adding photos; learning where and how people are searching for you, and more.
When people see your listing on Google, if they are interested in your business/services, they are going to click on your website link to find out more about you.
Head over to https://www.google.com/intl/en_ng/business/ and get your business listed.
Bonus – Converting your website visitors to buyers.
Now that you have figure out how to have the right people visit your website, I want you to also know that it is very necessary to convert those traffics into customers which are the reason why you want them to visit your page.
Converting your traffic is a little bit tricky, First, you have to give them something to make them never go away.
In the digital world, anybody can visit any website, Anybody can also dump any website for different reasons. So, it is your duty as a business owner to make sure anyone who leaves your website will return.
There are tools that will help you get that done.
The idea of giving them something is to capture their emails. So, you will need tools like Optin monster or convert plug to capture their email.
Once you have their email, you can now send them updates right in their inbox. And that makes it hard for them to forget your website.
There are several reasons why you should drive targeted traffic to your website. It’s either you want to make sales or you want to get known.
Whichever reason you have, follow the above tips and you will not be disappointed at the end of the day.
