Hello reader, Welcome to MKRTProfit. Today, we are going to look into palm Oil Production to see how palm oil is being extracted from the fruits of a palm tree.

Talking about palm oil, I am referring to the Red-colored oil extracted from the fruit of African Palm Tree ( Elaeis guineensis ) also known as Macao fat.

  6. It helps raise beneficial HDL cholesterol, etc.

Above are some of the health benefits of Oil Palm.

But apart from consumption, palm oil is also very useful in the production of some substances we use at home, such as Candles, Soaps, etc.

At home, in some parts of Africa, palm oil is used in the kitchen to prepare almost all kinds of food, including soups, stews, porridge yam, etc.

Palm oil production is the process by which palm oil is being extracted from palm fruits. This process can undergo several stages, and depending on the approach, it can consume more or less energy and time.

In Nigeria, as far as I know, there are two approaches to palm oil production:

  1. Manual Approach
  2. Use of Machines.

Of cause, today’s technology has made it easier for us to do anything including pal oil production, But the cost of palm oil processing machinery can be higher than an average man can afford. And besides, you may not even need a machine for palm oil production unless you want to process a large number of palm fruits.

The most common way, and of course, the way everybody can afford is using the manual approach, as mostly seen in Nigeria and some parts of West Africa.

Palm oil production:  The whole process

In brief, palm oil production takes the following process:

  1. Cutting down the palm Head (The bunch of palm fruits)
  2. Threshing the bunch to free the fruits
  3. Cooking the fruits
  4. Mashing the fruits and pressing out the oil.

Because palm trees can live more than a century, you need not cut the tree itself, instead, find a way to climb up there and cut down the palm head.

When you have the palm head with you, thresh it to separate the fruits from the bunch.

If you do not own a palm tree, do not worry, you can buy as many palm fruits as you want from local markets.

After all the fruits have been separated from the bunch, the next thing to be done is Cooking the fruits for about 20 – 30 minutes after which you mash it until the kennel is freed.

Then, separate the Kennel and press out the oil from the remaining.

WHOAH! Palm Oil is produced.

And what next?

After the above process, palm oil is produced, but not ready for use. To make it ready, you need to continue to cook it until all the dirt settles underneath, and then gently take out the oil.

CONGRATULATIONS! You now know the process of palm oil production.

Palm Oil Production is a very nice start-up for entrepreneurs who want to make extra profit. From my research, 25ltrs of palm oil costs about $55.02 in Nigeria where almost everyone has access to a palm tree.

To me, I think it would be more profitable if one can process and produce palm oil here and export to other countries where there is little or no palm trees at all.

Well, that’s my own thought. So tell me what you think using the comment section below.
